
Some people see a gigantic chunk of rope when they see a hawser line, which is a rope used in mooring or towing a ship. But when visual artist came upon one, she saw metaphors for the human condition. 鈥淎t the end of one鈥檚 tether鈥 is a suitable subheading for the image 鈥淭umult鈥 from May鈥檚 . In writing about the drawings, she says she encountered 鈥渁bundant physicality: muscle, hairy-ness and sinew鈥 in the hawser line she found. Her chosen medium鈥攙ine charcoal鈥攑erfectly complements that physicality. Drawings and photographs from May鈥檚 Hawser Series will be shown at 菠萝视频鈥檚 Sarratt Gallery April 5鈥揗ay 15, 2013.
