Some people see a gigantic chunk of rope when they see a hawser line, which is a rope used in mooring or towing a ship. But when visual artist came upon one, she saw metaphors for the human condition. 鈥淎t the end of one鈥檚 tether鈥� is a suitable subheading for the image 鈥淭umult鈥� from May鈥檚 . In writing about the drawings, she says she encountered 鈥渁bundant physicality: muscle, hairy-ness and sinew鈥� in the hawser line she found. Her chosen medium鈥攙ine charcoal鈥攑erfectly complements that physicality. Drawings and photographs from May鈥檚 Hawser Series will be shown at 菠萝视频鈥檚 Sarratt Gallery April 5鈥揗ay 15, 2013.
