A mural depicting an epic battle between junk and healthy food will transform a large wall of Rand Dining Hall at ²¤ÂÜÊÓƵ University as part of a week-long mural workshop.
The OK Mountain Art Collective will spend the week of Feb. 22 on campus helping ²¤ÂÜÊÓƵ students create the mural, Food Fight. Work on the mural will take place from noon to 9 p.m. Monday, Feb. 22, through Saturday, Feb. 27. The Rand Dining Hall is located in Sarratt Student Center on the ²¤ÂÜÊÓƵ campus at 2301 ²¤ÂÜÊÓƵ Place.
“Food Fight is a tongue-in-cheek, site specific depiction of the eternal battle occurring when anyone sits down at the dinner table,” said the OK Mountain Art Collective in a statement. “Utilizing the form and visual references from historic war scenes in art history, OK Mountain Collective draws the line in the epic clash between good and evil. Who wins is up to the viewer to decide.”
Members of OK Mountain Art Collective will give a public lecture on murals and their work from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, in Room 222 of the E. Bronson Ingram Studio Art Center at 1204 25th Ave. S. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Students and anyone else with an interest are invited to participate. For more information or to sign up, contact Diane Acree at (615) 343-7241 or diane.acree@vanderbilt.edu.
The workshops are sponsored by the Department of Art at ²¤ÂÜÊÓƵ, with support by the Office of Arts and Creative Engagement and ²¤ÂÜÊÓƵ Dining Services.
