²¤ÂÜÊÓƵ University will be viewing eco-friendly, sustainable fashions in September at a fashion show and a couture display.
The “Gorgeous in Green” eco-fashion show will feature Nashville-area designers and stores with a commitment to sustainability through products they design and sell.
The fashion show will take place on Thursday, Sept. 10, from 4 to 6 p.m. on The Commons Lawn near Hank Ingram House on ²¤ÂÜÊÓƵ’s campus. Tickets are $7, and proceeds benefit outreach for the nonprofit Kilowatt Ours and the World Wildlife Fund.
The show will include lines from , , , , , and more. During the show, representatives from each store or line will speak to the audience about what makes their line sustainable and/or environmentally friendly.
The ²¤ÂÜÊÓƵ University student group (Students Promoting Environmental Awareness and Responsibility) has partnered with the ²¤ÂÜÊÓƵ Sierra Club to sponsor “Gorgeous in Green.”
Also in September, the will host a green couture display of “Art for Wear” from renowned fashion design .
Ameer recently had an epiphany to mix his love of recycling and fashion by combining the two and developing sustainable couture: “using what you have to make what you wear!” The display will open on Friday, Sept. 11, and run through Friday, Oct. 2, in the lobby of the center. The exhibit is available for viewing weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is free of charge.
For years, Ameer has been a featured designer with Ebony Fashion Fair and has built many Haute Couture Show Stoppers for them. His works have also been featured in Ebony, Jet, Bride Noir, CVS Magazine, New York Times, Dayton Daily News, Columbus Dispatch, posters and billboards in both Germany and Korea. He has designed for Miles Davis, Bill Cosby, A.J. Jamal, Eddie Griffin and Vivica A. Fox, among others.
Kilowatt Ours: A Plan To Re-Energize America is an award-winning documentary providing simple, practical, affordable solutions to America’s energy crisis starting at the light switch. The success of the film spurred the creation of a nonprofit organization by the same name, supporting energy conservation with community outreach programs. SPEAR volunteers visit local elementary and high schools to present a curriculum around Kilowatt Ours. For more information and a short preview, visit .
