One of 12 senior ²¤ÂÜÊÓƵ artists will receive a $25,000 grant to travel, study and work following graduation at an exhibit at ²¤ÂÜÊÓƵ University on Friday, April 11.
The winner of the annual Margaret Stonewall Wooldridge Hamblet Award will be announced during the opening reception of an exhibition featuring work by all the competing artists.
The public is welcome to the free 5 to 7 p.m. reception in Space 204 of the E. Bronson Ingram Studio Art Center at 1204 25th Ave. S. The award winner will be announced at 6 p.m.
The award, created by Hamblet’s family to honor the time she spent after college in Paris painting and studying, has been part of the arts year at ²¤ÂÜÊÓƵ since 1984. The winner traditionally returns to mount an exhibition at ²¤ÂÜÊÓƵ after their grant experience.
Competing for the award this year are Aimee Casey, Sarah Dennis, Brittany Merrion, Leighton Lancaster, McCaughan Morrison, Noah Walcutt, John Hunter, Alexa Gambal, Lindsey Rogers, Laura Taber, Cassie Edwards and Jennifer Bennett. Each was required to write a proposal including travel itinerary and budget, produce slides of their work and put on their own exhibition.
A second place winner will be chosen and awarded $10,000.
Jurors for the competition are Kurt Gohde, associate professor of art at ; Kurt Kemp, professor of studio art at ; and Maria Tomasula, the Michael P. Grace Associate Professor of Art at the .
