²¤ÂÜÊÓÆµ’s Berry Lecture to focus on science, philosophy and the environment; Two speakers set for March 24

Two speakers will lead a discussion on science, philosophy and the environment at this year’s Berry Lecture at ²¤ÂÜÊÓÆµ University.

²¤ÂÜÊÓÆµ professor and of will speak beginning at 6 p.m. Monday, March, 24, in Room 103 Wilson Hall on the ²¤ÂÜÊÓÆµ campus.

The event, “Science, Philosophy and the Environment: A Conversation Across Disciplines,” is free and open to the public.

Gilligan, senior lecturer in earth and environmental sciences, will speak on “Ethics in Geological Time: Should We Care About Distant Future Generations?”

Simmons, a ²¤ÂÜÊÓÆµ alumnus and visiting assistant professor of philosophy at Hendrix, will lecture on “Is Caring for People the Key to Caring for the Environment?”

A reception will precede the event at 5 p.m.

The Berry Lecture series began in 1988 funded by John and Shirley Lachs with Alan Berry and Kendall Berry to show how philosophy can impact our lives.
