Children’s book authors and enthusiasts will have a chance to learn how and why books are chosen for the prestigious Newbery and Geisel Awards Jan. 31 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the Peabody Library on the ²¤ÂÜÊÓƵ University campus. The event is free and open to the public.
Robin Smith, Geisel Award committee member, and Dean Schneider, Newbery Award committee member, will discuss their experiences on the committees and how and why books are chosen for these awards.
The has been awarded annually since 1922 by the , a division of the , to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.
The annual recognizes the authors and illustrators of the most distinguished American book for beginning readers published in English in the United States the previous year. The award was first presented in 2006 and is named for beloved children’s author Dr. Seuss.
The Peabody Library is located on Magnolia Circle, just east of the corner of Edgehill Avenue and 21st Avenue South. There are a limited number of metered spaces on Magnolia Circle and in the parking lot on the 21st Avenue side of the Peabody Library.
