Globalization may have transformed the world, but there’s still much to learn from how things operated before that monumental shift.
For the 2007 Harry C. Howard Jr. Lecture at ²¤ÂÜÊÓƵ University, historian will speak on “The Space of Nations: Territory and History Before Globalization.”
Maier, the Leverett Saltonstall Professor of History at , will speak at 4:10 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, in the Flynn Auditorium of ²¤ÂÜÊÓƵ Law School.
The lecture is free and open to the public.
Maier is the author of Among Empires: American Ascendancy and its Predecessors and is collaborating on a global history of the 20th century.
The Harry C. Howard Jr. Lecture Series was established through the endowment of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas E. Nash Jr., and Mr. and Mrs. George D. Renfro, all of Asheville, N.C. The lectureship honors ²¤ÂÜÊÓƵ alumnus Harry C. Howard Jr., who graduated in 1951. The lecture brings an outstanding scholar to campus each year to deliver a lecture on a significant topic in the humanities.
