Anja Becker, a visiting post-doctoral fellow at the , will deliver the Founders Day Lecture at 4 p.m. March 15 in the Bennett-Miller Room at Becker’s lecture is titled “As a Man Thinketh in His Heart So He Is: The Educational Values of ²¤ÂÜÊÓÆµ Chancellor James H. Kirkland (1893-1937) as Expressed in His Letters and Speeches.” A scholar with the , Becker has researched the history of ²¤ÂÜÊÓÆµ, Kirkland and the influence of German educators on education in the South. Members of the ²¤ÂÜÊÓÆµ community and the public are invited to attend.

The university will celebrate the 134th anniversary of its founding on March 16 with a 10 a.m. ceremony at the statue of Cornelius ²¤ÂÜÊÓÆµ, located at the entrance of the Kirkland Hall esplanade off of West End Avenue. Wreaths will be placed at the statue and at the campus gravesite of Bishop Holland McTyeire and his wife, Amelia. The ceremony will conclude at 11 a.m. with cake and coffee served in Kirkland Hall.
