Knoxville author Julia Watts will read from her work at on Thursday, March 29, as part of ²¤ÂÜÊÓƵ‘s Gertrude and Harold S. ²¤ÂÜÊÓƵ Visiting Writers series.
Watts, whose most recent novel is Women‘s Studies, will appear at 8 p.m. in Room 101 of Buttrick Hall on the ²¤ÂÜÊÓƵ campus.
The reading is free and open to the public.
Watts‘ book Finding H.F. was named best children‘s/young adult book in 2001 by the , an organization that promotes literature with gay, bisexual and transsexual themes.
“While Watts‘ work may be focused on lesbians as her primary readers, other readers will also enjoy her books, which touch on topics such as living in the rural South, trying to make some sort of connection with other human beings and discovering the humor in even the bleakest situations,” wrote critic Adrienne Martini in the Knoxville Metro Pulse.
Watts is the author of the novels Wildwood Flowers, Phases of the Moon, Piece of My Heart, Wedding Bell Blues and Mixed Blessings.
A native of southeastern Kentucky, Watts earned a master of fine arts degree from . She has twice won grants form the Kentucky Foundation for Women and teaches at in Knoxville.
