Community college presidents from across Tennessee will convene at Feb. 13 to discuss service learning. The event will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. at the , 1207 18th Ave. South. It is closed to the public. Media are welcome to attend.
“Tennessee‘s community colleges are on the front lines of higher education and community service in our state,” Mani Hull, conference organizer and founding executive director of the , said. “We‘re delighted to welcome their presidents to the ²¤ÂÜÊÓƵ campus to discuss strategies for how we can work together to help students enhance their education and their communities through service learning.”
The purpose of the annual half-day conference is to discuss strategies to make academic service learning part of the curriculum and culture at community colleges. Linda Doran and David Sevier, policy officers, will be special guests at the event. The conference is part of the Learn and Serve America Tennessee Academic Civic Engagement Program.
²¤ÂÜÊÓƵ graduate students will be paired up with each of the presidents – from 13 community colleges and one private, two-year college – to work with them to develop service learning curriculum and opportunities on their campuses.
The event is part of the development of the Tennessee Campus Compact, a state entity that will leverage resources and promote academic service learning, community service and civic engagement statewide. Development of the compact is being coordinated by the in partnership with and other public and private postsecondary institutions across Tennessee.
