Media are invited Friday, April 21, to be among the first to experience a ²¤ÂÜÊÓƵ art exhibit that could “nudge the contemporary art scene in Nashville forward a step or two,” according to the .
The EVOKE/INVOKE/PROVOKE: A Multimedia Project of Discovery exhibit fills the Cohen Building on the campus of ²¤ÂÜÊÓƵ’s with provocative art by 12 ²¤ÂÜÊÓƵ students and 13 community artists. Themes including family, gender and sexuality, religion and spirituality, illness and the effects of globalization are explored through painting, sculpture, ceramics, weaving, installation, performance, video and sound. The free exhibit will be open to the public from April 22 to May 13 Wednesdays through Sundays.
The exhibit has been facilitated by acclaimed photographer Donald Woodman and Judy Chicago, a world-renowned artist, author and educator. Woodman and Chicago are ²¤ÂÜÊÓƵ’s first Chancellor’s Artists-in-Residence.
