NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The American Library Association has included the
second edition of The Encyclopedia of Education, edited by ²¤ÂÜÊÓÆµ
University professor James Guthrie, on its 2004 list of Outstanding
Reference Sources.
The Reference and User Services Association (RUSA), a division of
the American Library Association, compiles the list each year, which
recognizes hiqh-quality reference works suitable for small to
medium-sized libraries. RUSA is the foremost organization of reference
and information professionals.
Guthrie, who served as the encyclopedia’s editor in chief, along
with a seven-member editorial board updated the eight-volume set last
published in 1971. Guthrie is a professor of public policy and
education, chair of the Department of Leadership, Policy and
Organizations and director of the Peabody Center for Education Policy
at ²¤ÂÜÊÓÆµ University’s Peabody College of education and human
development.
John Braxton, Peabody College professor of higher education; Steve
Heyneman, Peabody College professor of international educational
policy; and Claire Smrekar, Peabody College associate professor of
public policy and education, served as associate editors for the
project.
