NASHVILLE, Tenn. –Kent Syverud, dean and Garner Anthony Professor of Law at ²¤ÂÜÊÓƵ University Law School, today has issued a statement in response to the court’s rulings in the two cases involving race and admissions, Grutter v. Bollinger and Gratz v. Bollinger: "As dean of the Law School, I believe this is a decision that will work well for the United States and for higher education. The Supreme Court ruled that there will no longer be a place in the admissions process for arbitrary points to be awarded to people based exclusively on race; however, race can be one factor among many in admissions decisions. The resulting quality of the admissions decision will be strong and fair, and desirable racial diversity will be maintained in higher education throughout the country."
